Inter midfielder Patrick Vieira believes his side are the strongest side in Italy despite their recent lapse in form in Serie A.
The Nerazzurri have been dominating at the top of the Serie A summit for most of the season, but since their controversial elimination from the Champions League at the hands of Liverpool, their domestic dominance has waned, with defeats to Napoli and Juventus being their first of the campaign and making them appear somewhat vulnerable, with Roma lurking in second place.
However, Vieira insists that he was never worried of throwing away the league.
“I don’t think we have ever been scared, as a team and club we have always had faith in our strengths and we showed this in Bergamo,” Vieira told Sky Sport Italia.
“It’s true that we had difficult moments where the team played less well but we are still the best team in Italy.
“I don’t understand how people can say my goal against Atalanta was irregular. It shows a big lack of respect for the team we had.
“We haven’t thrown away our season by going out of the Champions League, we still have the league and Coppa Italia to win.
“In the last two years we have shown that we are the strongest and the results prove this. All I can say is that we have been disrespected for what we have done and for what we are doing.”
Inter are still four points ahead of second place Roma and it’s looking likely that they will win their third successive Scudetto.
